This is a climate controlled, secure access facility.

We had heavy rains Friday July 18th, 2014.

The roof in the center part of the main facility developed a MAJOR leak and several rows of storage units were flooded with water and severely damaged.

Units that were not damaged by the water falling from the ceiling were damaged by water collecting on the floor and running under doors and into the units.

The facility manager did not notify me of the problem until Saturday evening at 7:30pm (almost 24 hours later). Much too late to rent a truck to change facilities or purchase moving supplies.

Some of my neighbors store items there as well and they STILL have not been notified (48 hours after the initial damage).

The managers voice mail is not setup, so you can't leave him a message. The facility listed emergency contact number goes to a non-working number. The manager is unresponsive, and at one point even put cardboard up on the office windows so people inside could not see him in the office.

All doors to the facility are WIDE OPEN and all of the fire emergency exits to the building have been UNLOCKED and will not even latch closed. Anyone walking by can enter the building through these doorways (there is no fence on that side of the facility). AND THERE IS NOBODY WATCHING THE FACILITY TO PROTECT THE UNITS OR OUR PERSONAL PROPERTY.

It's now 5:30 Sunday evening and it started raining again. I went to the facility to see if the roof would leak again under this rain, and it's leaking AGAIN with water running into units from above and water collecting on the floors again.

I called the National customer service number 888-586-**** and spoke to SHAYLA, to report that the roof was leaking AGAIN and there was no one at the facility to do anything about it. She informed me that they were well aware of the problem and that NOTHING WOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT until MONDAY.

I then asked her for the telephone number of the Corporate offices and she told me to call the 888-586-**** again on Monday to get the Corporate number. I had to ask several times before she gave it to me, 801-562-****. She said it would be pointless to call it because they would just refer me back to the same 888-586-**** number.

I asked her why they didn't at least cover the roof with a tarp when the workmen were there Saturday evening.

She would only repeat THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO UNTIL MONDAY.

Totally irresponsible customer service on EVERYONE'S part.

TOTAL LACK OF CUSTOMER CARE, COMMITMENT, and ASSISTANCE

This is a failure of the property manager to get the leak fixed and/or the company to pay for and expedite the repairs. This is also why the big national storage unit chains love to push often useless insurance on you.

They try to alleviate themselves from as much liability as possible. So if you sue they say you signed a document saying your insurance would take care of damages and they are not liable. Which actually should'nt be legal signing your rights away.

This is also why many storage units are nothing but a big box with a bunch of partitions and few ceilings sometimes using chicken wire as a ceiling(tarp or drop cloth alert) If you notice many units also have basically a big shed made of metal for a storage which means it can attract dampness.

One last thing about storing anything on a concrete floor in a storage unit, home garage or basement. Concrete will attract moisture.

Cardboard boxes and wood furniture will eventually soak up that moisture. So it's best to store as much as possible on wood/2x4s(can usually find scraps in trash about anywhere) or I use old styrofoam packing from tv boxes etc. Plastic or rubber furniture leg cups or tips also help.

I had problems in an Extra Space climate controlled unit without power for days if not weeks. A lot of cardboard boxes especially those on a concrete floor got soggy.

I had to replace a lot of boxes and some paper stuff including books got a smell if not mold. The management said unless insurance will pay you will get nothing from us. To me climate control means a unit secure from outside elements. These storage unit companies feel entitled to no liability or risk which means they are basically selling you ***.

This is why they try to have you sign your life away. Their predatory contracts shouldn't even be allowed.
